An Introduction to Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a smart way to come up with additional passive income from your site or blog. The more visitors you get to your site or blog, the greater your chance for generating more income.
Many people may still be wondering what exactly is an affiliate program … well, simply put, affiliate marketing programs are when a company/business offers to pay you an “x” amount for directing traffic to their site and encouraging those visitors to sign up for their program, subscribe to their list or even purchase a product that they are selling. They may offer you a set amount or a percentage of the purchase price which resulted from your referral.
Sometimes, visitors or referrals do not purchase immediately … what then? The good thing is most affiliate programs offer a cookie duration - anywhere from 30 to 90 days, sometimes, even a whole year. This means that as long as the visitors have the cookie in the cache, that you as an affiliate can still receive a profit from any sale.
Affiliate marketing allows you to talk about products that you have already tried and truly like. You can post your affiliate links and graphics on your own site/blog as you write about these products. If your visitor purchases the product, you will recieve a commission for each sale. I think this is reason enough to participate in an affiliate program - not only does it provide you with content for your site but also a chance to make money. Take note too that you can write different articles to promote a specific product so you can blog about a specific item more than once.
If you are looking to earn extra money from your site, affiliate marketing is truly a way to go. You can choose to stick to one merchant only or go with a number of different ones.
